Our Jerusalem Schug is a Yemenite Jewish spice recipe from the holy city if Jerusalem, Israel. This spice originates from Yemeni Jews who used to reside in Yemen many years ago. Now, Yemeni Jews largely remain in Israel and they brought their incredible cuisine!
Shug is also knomw as Sahawiq (Yemeni Arabic: سَحاوِق,) zhoug or zhug (from Judeo-Yemenite Arabic سحوق), (Hebrew סְחוּג).
Shug is a Herbal, spicy green spice originating in Yemeni cuisine. It works well as a dip when mixed with Olive Oil, marinades for chicken or fish, roasting vegetables of simply using it to spice up any dish as a finishing spice. It’s bright, herbaceous, slightly spicy with hints of lemon and spices! This is one of our favourite spices!
