Taiwanese fried chicken is said to have been started over thirty year ago when vendors would sell thier specialty fried chicken to militiary works outside thir bases. Now, skip forward to modern day, fried chicken is often considered one of the fundamental pit stops for all those who venture into Taiwan's magical night markets. There are many "famous" in Taipei, our favourite was Hot Star Chicken in Shilin Night Market.
It was here we discovered this incredible spice that they put on their fried chicken to make it taste mind blowing! Exploring deeper we also found that the spice was used in the famous "Pepper Buns" and in multiple vegtable stir frys. We would argue that this is the most popular spice in Taiwan! Try adding it to almost any dish in which calls for pepper.
A Note on MSG (Monosodium Glutamate): We here at the Spice Merchant take pride in not using fillers or junk in our spice. However, what we value the most is tradition. Our recipes are meant to transport you back to your favourite market from your trip abroad. This is why we chose to include MSG in this particular spice. Without it, it is not authentic. Our MSG we choose to use is made in Japan, it is derived from Cassava and sugar cane, making it a natural product.
